Solenoid Replacement

This instruction manual details the removal and replacement of the solenoid for the following starters: FL0579 and MK0077

NEWS FLASH!!! To all owners of Freightliner and Western Star Class 8 trucks with Detroit Diesel engines!!! Effective January 4th, 2016: The number of teeth on the GHG17 Detroit Diesel 13/15/16 engines has changed. FL0189 can no longer be used with these new engines. The NEW Diamond Gard Part number for these GHG17 engines is FLA579.

Flywheel Housing Spacer

All Mitsubishi Electric 105P55 starters adhere to SAE standards which stipulate proper pinion travel distances for starters with SAE types 1 and 3 mountings. Some medium-and heavy-duty engines which use these mountings require the use of a spacer (Figure 1) between the starter and the flywheel housing’s starter mounting flange to maintain proper distance between the starter’s pinion & engine’s ring gear.

PC0779 to PC1479 Supersession

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc. has discontinued All Makes part number PC0779, and replaced it with PC1479. This service bulletin outlines the functionality, installation and troubleshooting differences between these two parts.


The primary difference between the outgoing model and the PC1479 is the relocation of the Integrated Mag. Switch (IMS). Relocation of the IMS allows the PC1479 model to be used on a wider range of applications.

OCP Starter Conversion Diagrams

To convert a vehicle’s starting system for use with the Mitsubishi 105P55, cut the two wires leading to the OCP plug. Connect these two wires with a butt-end connector.
